Zig Ziglar

Few people will recognize his given name. Hillary was born on the 6th of November, 1926 in Alabama, although he spent most of his young life in Yazoo, MS where his family relocated. When Hillary was six years old his father and his youngest sister died within weeks of each other, leaving his mother to raise Hillary and his ten siblings alone.

His future could have been bleak but the strength of character this southerner found in his mother would lay the foundation for this real American success story. Because of her example, Hillary grew up with a compassion for people and a will to work hard. As a young man, he served a stint in the U.S. Navy before attending the University of South Carolina as a part time student so he could support himself and pay for his education selling pots and pans for the Wearever Aluminum Company. He would sell products for several other companies before leaving that line of work and setting his eyes on a new goal. Hillary, now going by his nickname Zig, wanted to become a motivational speaker. He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams, building a multi-million dollar corporation teaching others the old fashioned values he learned at his mother’s knee and through all of those daily sales calls.

Zig Ziglar’s audiences could not get enough of his homespun wisdom and engaging lessons on common sense, fairness, integrity, and commitment. Whether inspiring individuals or corporations, Zig’s everyday words and infectious sense of humor have helped people all over the world realize their goals. Regardless of the setting or curriculum, in churches and in Fortune 500 companies, Zig Ziglar’s advice has born consistent evidence of his strong Christian faith.

In today’s southern quote, Zig Ziglar speaks about the first practical step in seeing your dreams realized. The best-selling author and world renown motivational speaker says, “Go as far as you can see and when you get there, you’ll always be able to see farther.”
