Beth Moore

She was born in 1957 and raised in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the fourth of five children born to a retired Army major and homemaker. She and her siblings grew up working at the town’s cinema where their father was manager. Beth doled out popcorn and soda and lived for the moments when she’d be allowed to slip into a movie herself. The flashing screen fueled a love for storytelling that was born in her heart at her local church. There she had sat in a pint sized chair and heard about Jesus and the greatest love story ever told.

After high school Beth earned a degree in political science from Southwest Texas State University. During those college years, she also met Keith Moore, the love of her life and her husband of thirty years. Together they raised two daughters, Amanda and Melissa.

Beth was working at Mother’s Day Out at her church and teaching aerobics when she took a Bible course given by an ex college football player. His passion touched a decades old call Beth had felt to the ministry as an eighteen year old. Soon she began speaking at luncheons and retreats where women responded to her honest confessions and sincere encouragements to walk out God’s word.

Today Beth is a wildly popular Christian teacher with a string of best-selling books and Bible studies, whose releases are eagerly awaited and absorbed by women all over the world, of all ages, races, and denominations. She continues to use her storytelling gift to lace her inspirational teachings with personal accounts that both touch and amuse the listener.

In today’s Southern Quote we hear the wise advice of this gifted communicator who once said, “When the stakes are high, bow down low.”
