Charles Swindoll
He was born the youngest of three children in El Campo, Texas on October the 18th, 1932. As a young man Charles thought he might become a mechanical engineer, a vocation defined as applying scientific knowledge to practical problems through the use of machines and tools. It was during his tour of duty with the U.S. Marines that he became convinced he was supposed to be a pastor. Some might say his life’s work hasn’t been that far from his original bent. Charles Swindoll has spent a lifetime preaching, teaching, and writing in a style marked by keen insight of the Scriptures coupled with a gift for both presenting and demonstrating their practical application to everyday life.
After graduating from Dallas Seminary in 1962, Charles “Chuck” Swindoll has ministered at churches across the country. Today he is senior pastor of Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas. And yet, most people know him as the internationally syndicated host of a daily radio program called “Insight for Living”, heard in eleven languages on more than 2,000 stations around the globe. Chuck Swindoll teaches that “truths haven’t changed, but they need the dust blown off them so they can be seen in the light of where we live today.” He and Cynthia, his wife of over 50 years in marriage and ministry, have four grown children and ten grandchildren.
In today’s Southern Quote we hear the words of this prolific Christian author who has written over twenty-five best selling books dedicated to helping others live out their faith in their daily lives. Charles Swindoll has said, “Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitudes toward life. The longer I live the more convinced I become that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it.”
