Drive By Preaching
I share an ongoing group text with my husband, our two grown children, and our beloved young in-laws who married those sweet kids of ours. I’m sure y’all are involved in your own group threads. We use ours to communicate important information like who was a rock star at soccer practice, who learned to go potty, and who has a loose tooth. As of this writing, those feats have been attributed to the grands, but you never know.
Occasionally, I’ll also hijack our group thread for something I’ve taken to calling “Drive by Preaching.” Just the other day I had a sudden burst of insight and well, my phone was handy. Bless my peoples’ hearts.
“Excuse the intrusion,” I typed to the group, “but I’ve got to tell y’all what I’m thinking about because it has been so strong in my prayer time this morning.”
Then I really got into it. As the late Jerry Clower would say, I shucked down the corn. I reminded my people that God initially chose us through Christ Jesus, and we got to choose Him back. I figured they were thinking, “Yes, we know that, Keggie.” So, before they could respond, I cut them off at the pass. It’s what we Drive by Preachers do.
“I know y’all know this,” I wrote, “but stay with me…Have you considered that we are always choosing Him, or not choosing Him? I believe that long after our initial response, God waits for us to choose Him again and again and again, day by day, to choose Him in this present moment and in this present moment, to choose to hold Him in our thoughts over the noise of everything else around us.”
Then, before I sent them a peace out, I hit them with my big finish, “For it is never His Presence that we lose, y’all, it’s only the sense of His Presence. Choose Him today.”
Friends, that was my message for the family and it’s my message for all of us. Let’s not neglect to choose Him back. This concludes today’s episode of Drive by Preaching. Carry on, and bless your hearts.
