On Healing a Nation and Baby Steps
Hello folks, let’s chat… Election 2016… Have mercy, right?! I’d like to offer my congratulations and my continued prayers to President Elect Donald J. Trump. I realize I’m stating the obvious here, but surely we are as polarized as we have ever been in this country. My prayer is that we can begin to heal the divide that seems to grow deeper with every campaign.
True, having a national kumbaya moment anytime soon may be a tad unrealistic, but we’ve got to start somewhere, y’all. Think baby steps. I even have a story for illustration.
My friend and her husband were having a disagreement themselves recently. By disagreement, I mean something short of a nuclear meltdown that lasted most of the day. Words were exchanged, killer looks were launched, and accusations were hurled. However, by the time night fell and bedtime rolled around, the weary warriors had reached something close to a truce. An uneasy truce, but a truce nonetheless. The two of them climbed into bed and my friend turned her back towards her husband and pulled the covers up under her chin.
“Goodnight,” she muttered.
Her man made a disgruntled noise and asked, “So, you aren’t going to kiss me goodnight?”
“No,” my friend responded, and then she added, “But I’m not gonna put the pillow over your face and smother you when you go to sleep, either. So, there’s that.”
Baby steps, America. Let’s do this thing.
Hugs,
Shellie
