I Know My Own, and My Own Know Me
In the event that you aren’t tweeting with me on Twitter, following me on Facebook, or exchanging pics on Instagram, you may not be aware of our latest blessing. I can fix that.
Hear ye, hear ye, Weston Phillip Tomlinson, our fifth grandchild, was born on November 13th. Considering the ginanormous amount of pictures of Weston that I’ve already collected on my iPhone, I feel I’ve shown remarkable restraint in only posting a half dozen. Don’t expect this to hold. I’m falling deeper in love with the wee one by the minute. Right now, our relationship is totally one-sided but experience tells me there is a day coming when this baby boy will turn his little head expectantly when he hears my voice and he’ll smile at me in recognition. As full as this present joy is, I know it will be swallowed up in the excitement of that day when it becomes obvious that Weston knows I’m his Keggie.
I was reading in the book of John earlier when something Jesus said sunk a little deeper in my heart than it ever has before. In the fourteenth verse of chapter ten Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd, and I know my own and my own know me.” Ah, Jesus is rejoicing in knowing those whom He has redeemed. That’s good, but don’t miss the second part of his thought, “and my own know me.” Did you hear that? Jesus is also celebrating the fact that His sheep know Him. Amazing truth, it captivates me to consider that my knowing Jesus brings Him joy.
Oh, friend, you can make His heart glad, too. Let this then, be our mutual goal— that we would spend time in His Word and in His Presence until the slightest whisper of our Beloved catches our ear and we turn towards that familiar Voice. Jesus knows us, one and all. Let’s press on until our Savior can say with great delight that we know Him, too!
Hugs, Shellie
