I’m Having Withdrawals
It’s done. I’ve packed my and Phil’s lunches and I’m headed to the field (laptop in tow) to visit with my hard-working husband. Today’s experiment will be to see if I can write on the combine. No, I won’t be driving. The darling man will be at the controls. Harvest is always a long hard season around here. Eight hour workdays are unheard of on the farm! This translates to very little time together.
Right now, I’m having a serious case of Phil withdrawals. It’s been a long week and my heart is sore from seeing so much pain in so many lives. I’m sorrowful for the chaos in the lives of people I love very much. And then there are the strangers, more than one, from different walks of life, who have opened their hearts to me and shared their sadness, becoming friends in the process.
I think I feel a little like my son used to many years ago when harvest wore on too long. Both of my children missed their daddy, but Phillip seemed to take those days the hardest. He would begin pining for his daddy who left for work before he woke up and returned home long after he had fallen asleep. Those were the days I would take the boy child to ride the combine with his dad while his older sissy and I shared some girl time.
After fellowshipping with The Man this morning, and leaving a ton of prayer concerns at His feet, I’m going to ride the combine with the earthly man He gave me. We’ll lunch and we’ll visit and then, well, I’m going to see if I can churn out some words while we just enjoy being near each other. This should be interesting. I shall report back soon. 🙂
In the meantime, I have a question for you. And facebookers, you may want to leave your comments on the blog because you can use the “anonymous” login. I’m working on a project and I’m interested in how you would answer this question–
My prayer life is _______________________________

My prayer life is a work in process. Not where it should be, better than it has been (a lot),and working to have it be like my mother-in-laws. She is the best Christian I know and I strive to be on the same level as she and God have reached. You know the kind. First Name basis. Always thanks God first and foremost for trials and victories. Never questioning “why me”. I guess that is just a prayer life but the entire relationship with Our Heavenly Father. Lucy

I so appreciate each of your responses and the time it took for you to comment. I’m taking all of you to Father in prayer. This is a very important question to me, so I’m going to ask you a favor. Would you repost this on your blog — or tweet/facebook or email it to your friends, family, and readers and ask them to fill in the blank. Remind them that they can do it anonymously if they’d like. THANK YOU
Rhonda
The pits… I need to do so much more….the thank yous are there but my asking forgiveness…well I hate to ask forgiveness when I am so human and darn it I know I will do it again. Its like if I dont mention it well its hidden besides God is too busy. Prayer for others no problem…
My man hauls the corn and beans and yes harvest is a blessing…thats why I have and as I type we are riding with hubby/daddy. Our 12 yr old son left with him early and I joined at and with lunch.

Ongoing- I find myself seeking prayer to help me get through the days sometimes since my mother -in-law died and we have become so involved with my father-in-law and his day to day life. My children become sad and seek comfort remembering their grandmother and my husband also remembers his mother so fondly and wonders why she was taken so soon. So I pray for strength daily and ongoing to help my family and myself get through these days that sometimes seem so long. Yes the answer is ONGOING.

I feel your pain, Shellie! My husband is an engineer and has been working on a huge project at work for the last couple of months. As time draws nearer for the project to be implemented, he works more and more overtime (including 5 hours this morning). I am 8 months pregnant with our first child and things have been mighty lonely around here.

My prayer life is one of the most important things in my life.It is a place where I can meet Daddy one on one and just talk to HIM about all the craziness that seems to be invading everyones life lately.

Oh Shellie, what a wonderful question. I’d describe my prayer life as slim. I do pray, but not enough, and just at a specific time that I set aside for time to pray. It’s more on the run, like I heard a sad story, so I pray, or I fussed at one of my kids, so I pray, or I feel frustrated, so I had God for help, and I pray.
I’ve been at odds with my faith the last couple of years, and I know this impacts my prayer time. It’s kind of long and deep to get into here, but my prayer life is not what I’d like it to be.
Thanks for asking, and making me think about it.
xo, love you!!

Abstract and open. Nowhere near as structured as it should or could be, but a suit of armor just the same.
