When Our Quest in Misguided

Took this handsome guy on his Walmart run yesterday along with his sidekick, Honey. Chasing them over the store in their fun mobil is quite the adventure. On the way home I treated him to some Jerry Clower on YouTube, cranked up the volume, and “pulled the knobs off”. IYKYN.

Favorite moment? When Papa got a phone call. “Arizona? I don’t know a soul in Arizona but I think I’ll answer it.” Of course he would, it was too good to pass up. Their chat went like this,

“Is this Mr. James Rushing?”

“It is.”

“Hello, James. I’m calling to talk about how I can lower your electricity bill.”

“Well, thank you, but I’m pretty happy with my electricity bill.”

“Really?” Arizona was skeptical.

“Oh, yes! My electricity is free down here!”

“Free?!” Now Arizona was curious.

“Yep,” Papa said. “That’s the good thing about being here in the detention center. Your electricity is free. Meals are, too!”

“Oh, wow, James. I’m sorry.”

“It’s all right. I’m hoping they’re gonna let me out before long.”

At this point Arizona was all in on Papa‘s incarceration story. I’m talking hook, line, and sinker, and you could tell by his voice that Arizona was fully commiserating. “I hope they do, too James. You take care and maybe I’ll catch you later.”

The two of them parted ways like old friends and Papa and I got a really good belly laugh.
