My Partner is Out of This World
Some of you may remember my talking about the rainbows in my herb garden. It was about this time last year when I first mentioned it. Allow me to sketch a quick back story in case you missed it because it’s back on my mind.
I have a spot in my back yard, above my herb garden, where I can create a rainbow at will. I discovered this by accident one morning. As I was watering my herbs I noticed God’s promise to man forming above the water spraying from the garden hose. It was a little slice of heaven and I enjoyed it, though I thought it was an isolated incident. Then it happened again, and again, until I finally realized the conditions in that little square of earth were perfectly suited for rainbow making. At the time, I remember sharing with y’all how it challenged me to keep asking God to open my eyes and help me see more and more of the evidence of Himself that He has written into nature.
Well, with the weather warming up, I’ve been back in my herb garden creating rainbows and mulling over the truth I find in them.
The phenomenon of the rainbow remains above my pay grade. All I know is that God designed it and I get to partner with Him to create one.
So, too, the mysterious process of new birth that a soul undergoes when it turns to Christ. There’s a mystery above all of our pay grades, but God has deemed to use our dusty frames in sharing His good news. The Hope of Glory lives in us and invites us to partner with Him in that supernatural creation of a new life. Like my rainbow making in the herb garden, we can choose whether to engage in His plans for those around us, or not. As believers we don’t manufacture the living water that flows from us and we don’t own the results, but in some way, it’s our hand on the faucet. Let’s turn it on wide open and full blast.
