On Family Secrets and Fresh Frog Legs
Hello folks, let’s chat…We have a bit of Straight Running Crazy news today, and a related story from one of your fellow porchers. First the news, did you know frog smoothies are all the rage in Peru? I read street vendors there blend the little fellows into drinks and bill them as comfort food– for the customers, not the frogs. Strangely, I shared that story with my middle sister Rhonda and she was not one bit comforted. Rhonda’s anti-frog, but that’s another story.
Granted, I’m with sissy on this one. I don’t want to drink frog smoothies. Now, if someone wants to fry their meaty legs up in hot grease, I’m all in. Which brings me to our story. I promised the girl who shared it that I’d conceal her identity. She isn’t sure the statue of limitations has passed and her man remains in the dark on the details to this day. We’ll call her Amelia Jo.
One evening Amelia Jo and the kids stayed too long at the fair. They were about to leave when Amelia Jo suddenly remembered she’d promised her hard-working man that she’d bring home fried frog legs for supper from his favorite restaurant– and it was closing time! Thankfully, they made it just as the folks were locking up and Amelia Joe purchased the last batch of legs. Hallelujah. Only in the confusion of loading everyone back into the car, Amelia Jo accidently left her husband’s dinner on the hood.
Ruh, roh.
Amelia JO and the kids were almost home when she Jo glanced in the rear view mirror and saw that box slide off. She watched in horror as those fresh frog legs scattered across the highway. It was decision time. The vote was unanimous. Amelia Jo pulled over. Together, she and the kids rounded up their daddy’s meal in the breaks between passing cars.
Sometime later her man was fully enjoying his meal when he exclaimed, “Man, these frog legs are good. You can tell they’ve just been caught.”
Amelia Jo said no one breathed, although several people did have to leave the room.
Enjoy the rest of this week’s issue, y’all. I’ve got a great recipe for your Thanksgiving meal, a few thoughts on the unfathomable love of God, and an update on this year’s 30 Days of Thankfulness Drive. It’s moving very slowly this year. I will admit to being surprised by that seeing as all of our proceeds are going to benefit American’s heroes, our wounded warriors who have paid such a high price for you and me. If you have a few bucks to click the link and do y our “$10 I’m In”, I would greatly appreciate it.
I pray you and yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving. Let’s count our many blessings and name them one by one.
Hugs, Shellie
