Sugar Sweet Company Ham
Hello folks, welcome back to the All Things Southern kitchen. In the interest of full disclosure, I meant to share my Sugar Sweet Ham recipe with y’all before Mother’s Day, but Father’s Day is right around the corner, so keep it handy!
Sugar Sweet Company Ham
3 and ½ cups brown sugar
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tsp dry mustard
½ teaspoon ground cloves
1 12-13 pound ham
Take a 12-13 pound ham and place it cut side down in a heavy cast iron skillet. Tent it with foil and slide it in a 325 degree oven. Low and slow, that’s key. It will take your cooked ham about 10 minutes per pound to heat completely. For your uncooked ham, it will be more like twenty minutes per pound. In the last twenty minutes of the total cooking time, we’ll coat it with our glaze.
Folks, the key here is to make sure your ham is done. If you start with an uncooked ham, it needs to get to 160 degrees internally. Oh, and make sure you don’t cut into it afterwards until it has rested at least thirty minutes, but the longer it sets the juicier it will be.
Now, for the glaze, we’ll blend three and a half cups of brown sugar with a third cup of balsamic vinegar. We’ll season this with a teaspoon of dry mustard and a ½ teaspoon of ground cloves, score our ham with a pretty diamond pattern and coat it with our glaze. You can stud it with whole cloves if you like. We’ll put our glazed ham back in the oven for the last twenty minutes and get ready. The only thing that remains is to enjoy the compliments! Enjoy my Sugar Sweet Company Ham. It’s good eating from the All Things Southern kitchen to yours.
Hugs, Shellie
