What do you see in this picture?
I have a piece of artwork sitting on a bookshelf here in the family room that has become quite the conversation piece. I purchased it simply because I liked what I “saw”. It was only after I got it home and my husband mentioned what he saw when he looked at it that I began to realize how thought provoking it really is– and I’m wondering if it was supposed to be…
What I’m finding most interesting is who sees what in it and how that breaks down along gender lines, among other things. So, here’s the piece:
Humor me this evening. What I want to know is, what do you see at first glance? I’ll be back in a while to elaborate…

Shellie

I had to read about the indian girl. All I saw was the angel.

Wow…scales of justice. Maybe why my friend saw a larger being…God Holy and Just….

Hi all,
Am I odd or what? I saw the eyes, then when I read further where you asked what we saw I went back and saw the scales of justice, then after reading the responses on seeing the angel I went back and saw the angel. Talk about an icebreaker in any location!

I see a budda face on the side of an ancient tree, and then a dove of peace flying straight up to Our Lord.

Everytime I walk into your living room i see an Indian girl with her eyes closed (the “jewel” between her eyes tells me she’s from India) ~ She’s prayin…to Jehovah God— because she’s a Christian now. BUT…i know it’s suppose to be an angel…so I re-focus and i see the angel….taking the Indian woman’s prayers to heaven. The End.

At first glance I saw eyes then it was like no, it is an angel.

At first glance–closed eyes, part of a nose and forehead. Second glance–an angel with wings spread. Interesting piece.

Indian girl, then angel. That’s funny.

Joyce, the answer is that I don’t think there is a “right” answer. I bought it for an angel, but it could have been for sale as an Indian girl. I honestly don’t know but it was fun to hear what everyone thought.

Shellie–the first thing I saw was an angel—then when I looked at it again, I saw downcast eyes
are you going to clear up the mystery for us, or leave us in limbo?

I saw the eyes first for a split second but almost immediately after I saw the angel.

Okay, this is fun watching your comments but since I’m about to leave to go watch a fantabulous Children’s Choir perform at our church, I’ll weigh in a minute. 🙂 I bought it because I saw an angel with big beautiful outstretched wings. When I got it home, my man said, “Where did you get the Indian girl in the bookshelf?” Since then, I’ve noticed that men see the girl from India first and women see the angle first. What does this mean? How do I know? :))) I just work here. I’ll check back in later!
