Who Holds Your Treasure?
“Here, Keggie,” my granddaughter said, “Hold my frog, please. I don’t want to lose it.” It would be a waste of time for anyone to tell Emerson she shouldn’t play with frogs. That ship has sailed. And for the record, this Keggie complied.
You may or may not share Emerson’s fondness for frogs, but I’m guessing we all know what it means to trust someone to hold our treasures, right? So it occurs to me that this might be a good way to explain a spiritual principle that I’ve had trouble articulating.
Let me be completely honest. I need Jesus in the worst way, every day. I can’t even commit to taking a certain attitude about a particular issue and then keep that attitude without resorting to Him for reinforcement. I used to feel bad about asking Him to help me love someone I found unlovable if I had already asked Him for that particular grace a dozen times before. Not anymore. I’ve finally learned to embrace the fact that there’s nothing good in me apart from Christ because my deficiencies cause me to stay near my Source!
Ephesians 1:3 reads, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” While those unlimited blessings are indeed ours, do note that we don’t have them in ourselves. Jesus is holding them for us!
If you’ve ever wondered what it means to have your gazed fixed on Jesus as you go about your daily life, this is it. Jesus is holding all the precious spiritual blessings we need for whatever arises. That means all the patience, hope, peace, love, and strength you need to meet the demands of the day are in Him, and that’s just to name a few spiritual blessings of an infinite list. Victory is learning to reach for what we need when we need it.
Hugs, Shellie
