Will Clark

He was born in South Louisiana in 1964. As a young boy growing up in New Orleans, Will was a promising young baseball player who showed an abundance of natural talent and harbored a dream of playing in the Majors. When he was fourteen a selection was held among his All Star team for the players that would represent New Orleans in the World Series. Will’s name was being mentioned with two other boys as possible picks. He felt good about his chances of being chosen but in the end, he wasn’t.

Although the pain was crushing and threatened to suck the wind out of his dreams, Will believes the early disappointment led to his eventual success. After his dad consoled him and encouraged him with the words “don’t give ‘em any options in the future”, the young boy dedicated himself to the sport, working longer and harder on his skills than any of his friends.

Countless practice hours later, after two years as an All American at Mississippi State University, Will “the Thrill” Clark signed a pro baseball contract with the San Francisco Giants. Incidentally, he was the only member of that baseball team from his youth that made it to the big leagues. Although his time in the majors was cut short due to injuries, Will Clark did leave his mark on the sport of baseball. He is remembered as a fierce competitor and one of the best clutch performers to ever play the game.

In today’s southern quote, Will reveals the inner determination that made him a winner.
Will Clark once said, “A challenge is the dividing line between winners and losers… Challenges guard all success. If you want the rewards, don’t quit. Keep working and get better at what you do. And don’t leave ’em any options in the future.” – Will Clark
