Yo, Cats and Dogs– It’s all good
My friend River Jordan sent me a great picture yesterday. I only have to open my phone and look at it to get a good laugh. Of course, that means I must share it with y’all. I hope it lightens someone’s load.
First, some back story. If you’ve been around All Things Southern long you may have heard me refer to River as Cat, and myself as Dog. Those nicknames came about during a very long book tour we took together across the South in the summer of ’09. While River and I share many common interests and we’re a lot alike in many ways, we are polar opposites in others. It was on that trip that River and I decided she was like a cat (a warm tabby cat, mind you, not one of those scratchy mean felines) that enjoys people– up to a point. After that, she simply must remove herself to recharge in private. I am the proverbial dog, rushing in the room greeting everyone in sight and knocking everything off the coffee table with my tail, (just a metaphor, people.) I’ve never gotten the hang of reservation.
And that brings me to the picture. Laugh a little — but when you get through, drop a friend a note and tell ’em how much they mean to you. May we all appreciate our differences and what binds us together. Life is hard, friendship can soften the blows.
Hugs,
Shellie
Tell me about one of your friends. What binds y’all together?
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

I love the fact that the cat is doing a pretty darn, good Owl impression and all of the peoples must sometime go incognito.
Polar opposites huh? yep. I have never, ever seen any two people with so much alike that were also opposites. However, North pole, south pole. If we got stuck we’d survive and tell some stories. I know you’d have my back and vice versa! Proving once again that dogs and cats can be best friends. 🙂

Amen and amen, my friend.

I love hearing nicknames and the stories behind them! Come on, lurkers, play along with us, right Ermilia?! 🙂 (Thx for dropping by!)
Ermilia
I enjoy hearing them too *silently stalks the thread*
Another one of my nicknames is Poker Face because I don’t have one. I’ve learned to grin and giggle no matter what my cards are because if I can’t hide my excitement behind a stoic mask, then I can fake it instead. ^^

Grin and giggle regardless– good plan!

That’s a wonderful image. My most recent nickname is “sapling” because I’m the newest employee at Novel Publicity. My boss just published her debut novel FARSIGHTED in which the mom called her son “my little sapling.”

One of my oldest friends and I were polar opposites as far as the men we were attracted to. We were visiting New Orleans during our college days and met some men and decided to hook up for dinner and drinks. She always loved to tell that the man she was with was a professor at Tulane and “the one Sandra was with played in the Rose Bowl.” It was the truth…we could always hang out knowing we would never be attracted to the same man!

These things — not being attracted to the same man– are what build strong friendships. 🙂
