Sometimes we pray like we’re writing a formal letter—“Dear God, three tidy sentences, respectfully submitted, amen.” Meanwhile our hearts are more like our purses, full of receipts, gum wrappers, loose change, and mystery crumbs— wounds, grievances, and confusion…We bring Him the neat version of what’s going on while the rest of our thoughts pile up out of sight and out of reach. But essay praying with carefully chosen words gets up nowhere fast. We don’t know what’s in our hearts until we pour them out to God and bring Him all the things He already sees and wants to heal. So don’t try to pray pretty—just pray honest. Anything less falls under the old adage nothing ventured, nothing gained. 🙃👜 #donttrytopraylikeherbook
