Today is my beloved grandfather‘s heavenly birth Today is my beloved grandfather‘s heavenly birthday, and it feels like it deserves a story. My Papaw was a Jesus loving preacher with a penchant for pranking. (Hello from one of his apples.) My memories of Papaw are many and treasured. Here’s one…

When I was a little girl Papaw built an altar of twelve large stones in the woods behind his house in Natchez, Mississippi, and the memory of him kneeling to pray at that hallowed place is very special. Fast forward to adulthood.

A few decades after Papaw went to see Jesus I discovered that not only was my Uncle Rod in possession of those very altar stones, but he was willing to let me have one of them for my own prayer garden! I was like a gnat on caffeine. I couldn’t focus on anything but getting by Uncle Rod’s house to collect my stone.

Later that same evening Rod called to remind me not to try and get the heavy rock out of the car by myself. I promised him I was waiting on Phil to do that.

“Good,” Rod said. “And. by the way, you do know the meaning behind the twelve stones, don’t you?”

I told Rod I wasn’t sure if they represented the twelve tribes of Israel to Papaw, or the twelve disciples.

“The twelve disciples,” Uncle Rod replied. And then, because he is his daddy’s son, he added, “I gave you Judas Iscariot.”

Apples, apples, everywhere.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Papaw and Happy Monday to y’all! Find something to laugh at today. Anything. It’s God’s meds. Here’s a pointer: there’s always material available if you learn to laugh at yourself. ♥️😂♥️ (And the stone in the reel has been renamed. Meet Peter, the Rock. IYKNY)
I’ve been thinking about the word Godwinks. If i I’ve been thinking about the word Godwinks. If it blesses you, by all means, keep using it. But sometimes it just doesn’t cut it for me. When life feels heavy and trouble presses in, I don’t need a wink—I need a holy embrace. I need the comfort of His Eternal Presence, not a passing gesture. And that’s exactly what He gives.

We live in a broken world. Some of our pain comes from our own choices, some from the choices of others, and some simply from a creation groaning under the weight of sin. God honors the gift of free will, but because He is Love, He never leaves us to walk through the dark alone.

“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me…” Psalm 23:4

When the shadows fall, He steps in with light and peace.

“To give light to them that sit in darkness… to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
(Luke 1:79)

I’ve started calling these sacred moments Glory Glimpses. They’re the times when Heaven leans in with a song, a word, a “coincidence” that feels too personal to be random. They remind us we are seen, loved, and held.

“…and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” Matthew 28:20

Glory Glimpses aren’t coincidences. They’re sacred, startling, undeniable reminders that we’re seen. Loved. Held.

We don’t need an occasional wink—we need ongoing faith building wonder. And in His kindness, God gives us Glory Glimpses to remind us He’s near.

Think back to a time when you received what could only be described as a Glory Glimpse—a moment when God made His presence known in a deeply personal way.

I’d love to hear your memory, but if you don’t want to share, that’s fine. I would, however, encourage you to write it out somewhere as a reminder—and a testimony—for days when His presence feels far away.

Blessings, friend. #Jesusthoughts #fromatowncalledbyhisname #lakeprovidencela #donttrytopraylikeherbook
