Christmas 2013 Laptops and Love Notes

Hello folks, let’s chat… The good news is, I got a new laptop for Christmas. The bad news is, I wasn’t through with my old one but the poor thing didn’t have the stomach for the full cup of coffee it was offered. It checked out on the spot.

Yes ma’am, after all the private moments we’ve shared, my trusty laptop gave up the ghost without so much as a fare thee well. I was a little hurt that it didn’t have the wherewithal to say goodbye. It sort of made me nostalgic for those little love notes we used to share back when it would say things like, “You have performed an illegal maneuver and I am shutting down.” I always knew it was just funning. But, not this time. No ma’am, it didn’t buzz, beep, or hum a bar of Christmas music.

But, that’s okay. I’m moving forward without bitterness. I’m choosing to be grateful instead for all the lessons it taught me back in the day. After all, it was the machine that helped me diagnose and document the syndrome we have come to refer to around here as TMPO. Hmmm…Wait just a minute. Now that I think about it, the hoopla surrounding my laptop’s passing did serve up a potentially embarrassing TMPO incident there at the bitter end. Maybe that was its way of saying goodbye?

I’d been making a valiant effort not to let my concern over the possible loss of some very important data spontaneously combust with the list of shopping, cooking, cleaning, and writing staring at me when my computer guy called with the news! Everything had been saved! Cue the Hallelujah Chorus! “Thank you so much,” I told him at the end of our phone conversation, “I love, love– love your store!” Whew! I caught myself right before I told computer guy how that I loved him. That friends, is a fitting illustration of TMPO: too many programs open and not enough resources to run ’em. It can happen to any of us at any time. Be careful out there and Happy New Year!

Hugs, Shellie
