Let’s Plug In
The All Things Southern office can be a most unusual workplace. Many a Wednesday finds me trying to turn in deadlines and keep this boat afloat while playing grocery store or school with the All Things Southern Bellerinas. Longtime listeners will recognize those titles as belonging to my lovely granddaughters Emerson Ann and Carlisle Mae. At five and three, those two are busy and getting busier all the time.
When I first started keeping Emerson, she slept most of the day and my work was able to continue, mostly uninterrupted. This soon gave way to the “entertain me, please” days when she began playing at my feet but even then she was delighted to bang away on an old computer keyboard of mine that wasn’t plugged in and to place phone calls on an old cell phone that didn’t have a battery. As you might imagine, that stage passed quickly, too. By the time her little sister Carlisle joined our Wednesdays, Emerson was offended by that old work station. If I even tried to placate her with that unplugged keyboard and uncharged cell phone her small chin would set as if to say, “They have no power, Keggie, and I refuse to go thru the motions.” Indeed, the Bellerina Czar had figured out the difference. Her sister seemed to get there in record time, too. These days, they both work kiddie games on my iPhone and Ipad like there’s no tomorrow, at least until the batteries discharge. I’m their go to girl when that happens.
My goal as a believer is to be as quick in realizing when I’m not “plugged into my power source.” Strength is found in beholding Jesus and keeping Him ever before me as I work. Anything less and I can get as irritated and outdone with my work schedule as Miss Emerson did with her unplugged work station. Join me and let’s be determined to plug into the God of the Universe thru Christ Jesus, the power source. This old world is in sore need of a body of believers who are divinely energized and fully engaged!
