Public Infernos, CA Miljavac, and Finding Truth

Welcome, y’all. This is Shellie and I’ll be chatting with Carolanne Miljavic in this week’s episode to discuss her new debut book, Oddly Enough! Carolanne describes herself as a southern raised, Jesus saved, barely sane author, speaker, social media goofball, wife, and mom of 3 daughters. She says, “Grief taught her gratitude, pain gave her purpose, and loss revealed true love.” Join us for a great discussion about having the guts to be you.

Afterwards, we’ll whip up something delicious in the All Things Southern kitchen – hint it rhymes with budge but it won’t add to your waistline if you partake in moderation because it’s low to no sugar— and I’ll close with a few devotional thoughts of my own. Right now, let’s chat…

What y’all don’t know is that I pulled my hamstring in a bad way, as in may have possibly torn the thing in two, but time will tell. It’s most definitely slowed me down, but it hasn’t stopped me. I’ve spoken in three different states in the past three consecutive weekends, and I’ve loved serving up Jesus, despite the limp and the occasional whimper when I step wrong. I made the best of that, by the way. I had my audiences agree to whimper whenever I did so I would feel better about it. Their cooperation was gracious and fun for all.

The accident? Do we have to? Let’s just say I distinctly remember having several opportunities to reconsider my actions that Saturday morning as I stepped off of my float boat onto the dock, even though I realized I had killed the motor too soon and the boat was still moving, much too swiftly. By too swiftly I mean it was leaving with my left leg while my right foot was planted on the dock. Legs aren’t designed to do that. Not fifty-something year old legs, for sure.

But, that’s not the story I was going to tell, and this is as good a place as any to jump ship. Jump ship. See what I did right there?

I stole a wonderful story from a darling woman in South Georgia for y’all, stole it like a plank off the White House. It’s true so we’re going to change her name to Sarah Leah to protect the not so innocent.

Sarah Lea told me of the time when a hot flash of epic proportions waylaid her just as she was getting out of a hot shower. Which explains why, moments later, when her husband walked through the bedroom, Sarah Lea was lying on their bed under the ceiling fan, completely nekkid. Her darling husband raised his eyebrows and she glared at him so he wouldn’t misunderstand the situation. “I’m having a hot flash,” she said. And that was that.

Until a few hours later…the two of them were sitting in church, right up at the front, where God and everybody could see them, when Sarah Lea began rummaging through her Bible for a piece of paper. As she started fanning herself furiously, her man, helpful guy that he is, leaned down and whispered, “Sarah Lea, just remember where you are.”

Hey folks! Welcome back to the All Things Southern kitchen. By now you’ve probably heard of Keto even if you aren’t trying to go Keto, am I right? Well, versions of today’s fudge recipe can be found on a number of Keto sites, so I can’t claim it as my own. The only difference—I like to add a sprinkle of sea salt because we like salted chocolate! My man is willing to vouch for this almost sweet treat—it’s the perfect little after dinner bite of deliciousness. It doesn’t taste like a low carb, low sugar fudge at all! Now, I can show you how to whip it up, but you’re on your own with quantity control, and yes, sadly, that’s where we get in trouble.

Fool ‘Ya Fudge

1 stick unsalted butter, melted
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 tablespoon vanilla extract paste
1 8-ounce package softened cream cheese
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup crushed pecans
*we don’t need extra sweetener but your family might!

We’ll begin by taking a small sauce pan and melting a stick of unsalted butter and 2 ounces of unsweetened chocolate. We’ll add a tablespoon of vanilla extract. (I like to use vanilla paste. Just FYI.)

Next, we’ll take our blender and blend in eight ounces of softened cream cheese, a ¼ teaspoon of salt and a cup of crushed pecans. We don’t need extra sweetener, but your family might. Try a taste test once it’s blended and before you spread it in an 8×8 greased casserole dish.  You may find you want to add a bit of stevia or other sugar substitute if you need it really sweet.

You’ll want to put this in the freezer to firm it up, and then, if you like fudge as much as I do, you may want to leave it in the freezer so it’s not calling to you 24/7. Just an idea! That’s some delicious low carb/low sugar Fool ‘Ya Fudge from the All Things Southern kitchen and all those Keto sites, to yours~

Southern Comfort

Let’s open the Word together:

Jesus says in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, but by me.”

As our political climate grows more and more contentious, and as he said/she said arguments pit testimony against testimony in a never-ending puzzle that seems impossible to solve, I want to encourage you with this truth.

God isn’t limited by the confines of human words. It is more than possible for Him to move in our midst and reveal Truth independent of preconceived conclusions. I’ve been spending time on my knees asking Him to do precisely that. Will you join me?

That’s it for this week, folks. Until next time, may the Good Lord bless you and keep you, make His face to shine upon you, and give you peace. This is Shellie with hugs for all~
