Spotting the Mighty Eagles of Lake Providence, LA
We’ve had people in town tell us about a pair of eagles that have made our lake their home and I’ve seen cell phone pictures others have captured, but until recently, it was just that, hearsay. Then we saw him for ourselves, this mighty bird with the wing span for days! And can I just say, “Wow!”
It was Easter Sunday. He landed high atop a Cypress tree on the lake bank in our back yard, and after Phil produced his hunting binoculars, we all studied him in child-like wonder. I’ve been watching for him ever since, but as of this writing, he appears to be staying off of the radar. He has, however, continued to bring a certain scripture to my mind. I’m talking about that sugar sweet promise we love to quote about walking and running without getting tired and mounting up with wings like the eagle. It comes from the fortieth chapter of Jeremiah. May these gracious words fall on your ears and sink into your heart.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
As soothing as those words are, we’d do well not to miss the activity that comes before all of that walking, running, and soaring because we won’t have one without the other. Read it again, those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Your translation might read those who trust in the Lord, or hope in the Lord, but the root word suggests someone who returns over and over to the Source of this extraordinary strength. These are the reinvigorated. The One who gave that wingspan to the eagle will lift you up, too. Return to Him, time and time again.
Hugs, Shellie
