Bless Your Heart, Birmin’ham!

This morning, Tuesday morning, brought us to Birmin’ham and St. Vincents for a signing at The Bookseller’s. Red and I were both looking forward to it as this had been one of our fav stops from the Suck Your Stomach In tour of ’08. We were as tickled this time as we were on the last one, too.

Ruth was waiting with her lovely smile and charming wit. This woman and I understand each other even though she came from up nawth!

Had a lovely time talking to this repeat Freader who enjoyed my first book and came back for more. That’s always nice to hear!

One of the biggest blessings of touring are the people I get to meet! Trust me, y’all– there are a ton of friendly faces all over the South, just like this new Freader…

And now, a confession. I do wish I had taken more pics at The Bookseller’s, but I got busy talking to everybody, (imagine that), and kept forgetting to get pics. (Don’t be ugly, now. God don’t like ugly.) I would have loved to get the pic of the sweet Alabama belle who bought the book and planned to read it to her grandmother recovering from surgery upstairs– and the man who was there to buy books because his wife texted him with strict orders to “GO GET BOTH BOOKS AND GO NOW”. As he said, he has been married for a long time and is now well-trained. But again, I forgot to snap those shots and Red was playing hooky off in the corner somewhere reading that huge NYT’s bestseller we’ve been hearing about, Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo. (Okay, so I can’t really complain when she goes AWOL. I’ll be the first to admit that the traveling assistant pay stinks.) Oh, but that book, can I just say that it is everything we had been hearing– a truly wonderful read. Rhonda read me some of it in route to Tupelo. We laughed, we cried, we worshipped. If you haven’t read it, please do! It’s life-changing, and that’s the truth.

Tomorrow awaits and a return trip to Reed’s Bookstore downtown. I’m looking forward to seeing Emily and the gang again. So, until then, nite-nite folks!

Hugs,
Shellie
