I could live to be a hundred, give or take a few y I could live to be a hundred, give or take a few years, and I could be gone tomorrow. That’s how it works for all of us. But for the sake of this discussion, let’s just say I’ll make the centennial mark. It doesn’t take a lot of mathing to determine I’m knee deep in the third quarter. That realization has set my wheels turning.

I coached girls’ basketball once upon a time. And while it’s been a hot minute since I gave a half-time speech, I haven’t forgotten trying to impress on my teams the importance of the third quarter. By that point in the game, the first half of play had taught us plenty about ourselves, and our opponents. We knew what was working, what wasn’t, and what adjustments we needed to make. The third quarter was crucial. If we took it lightly, our goals were doomed. If we seized it, we could position ourselves for victory. There’s a reason why the third quarter is called the championship quarter. It’s where games are won and lost.

I’m aiming to apply those third quarter lessons to my life in Christ. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my enemy. (You have the same enemy. You know that, right?) The inestimable good news here is I also have a Supernatural Coach who is infinitely wiser than myself, or any other human who ever drew up a game plan, and this is His promise to all who’ll listen, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32.8

I’m leaning in and listening closely for His adjustments. I’ve seen far too many games decided because of a third quarter lull in intensity. Maybe you’re in one of the other periods of life. Heeding God’s good intentions applies to you, too.

If you’re young, the Spirit of God wants to save you from a life of defeat. If you’re older and you’re being thrashed by the enemy, He is present to rescue, forgive, heal, and restore what has been lost and position you for a better season in His sweet Presence. I implore you to lay your game plan down and trust His! God is for you. Jesus is proof.

~Drop a heart if you need prayer.

Hugs,
Shellie
