Who’s Stalking You?

Hey friends, I wanted to share some thoughts on staring down fear that I hope will encourage you. And I’ve got more on that news I mentioned in the last letter. Let’s chat…

Hugs,
Shellie

I could live to be a hundred, give or take a few y I could live to be a hundred, give or take a few years, and I could be gone tomorrow. That’s how it works for all of us. But for the sake of this discussion, let’s just say I’ll make the centennial mark. It doesn’t take a lot of mathing to determine I’m knee deep in the third quarter. That realization has set my wheels turning.

I coached girls’ basketball once upon a time. And while it’s been a hot minute since I gave a half-time speech, I haven’t forgotten trying to impress on my teams the importance of the third quarter. By that point in the game, the first half of play had taught us plenty about ourselves, and our opponents. We knew what was working, what wasn’t, and what adjustments we needed to make. The third quarter was crucial. If we took it lightly, our goals were doomed. If we seized it, we could position ourselves for victory. There’s a reason why the third quarter is called the championship quarter. It’s where games are won and lost.

I’m aiming to apply those third quarter lessons to my life in Christ. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my enemy. (You have the same enemy. You know that, right?) The inestimable good news here is I also have a Supernatural Coach who is infinitely wiser than myself, or any other human who ever drew up a game plan, and this is His promise to all who’ll listen, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32.8

I’m leaning in and listening closely for His adjustments. I’ve seen far too many games decided because of a third quarter lull in intensity. Maybe you’re in one of the other periods of life. Heeding God’s good intentions applies to you, too.

If you’re young, the Spirit of God wants to save you from a life of defeat. If you’re older and you’re being thrashed by the enemy, He is present to rescue, forgive, heal, and restore what has been lost and position you for a better season in His sweet Presence. I implore you to lay your game plan down and trust His! God is for you. Jesus is proof.

~Drop a heart if you need prayer.

Hugs,
Shellie

Practiced some tough love this morning. My tomato Practiced some tough love this morning. My tomato plants had become one big mass of growing limbs twisting, turning, and carrying on slap out of control because someone (let’s not name names) had neglected training them and securing them to the arch support during their growth spurt. It hurt me to lose large portions of each plant but Sweet 100 tomatoes can take aggressive pruning and I knew it would be make healthier plants in the long run. I whispered to them more than once, “You’ll be ok, you need this.” Yes, I talk to my plants, and the birds, and the squirrels, and Hank the Tank, and anyone else who’ll listen. I won’t go into what I say to the one thousand seven hundred eighty-two varieties of insects that greet a Louisiana girl in the summer. It involves cursing— the Biblical kind, y’all— as in, “Die, you nasty bug and may your offspring die with you.”

Want some “dock theology”? God can stand to hear you holler. He can stand to hear us all holler.

God knows where our cravings, aspirations, and attitudes are out of control and He knows exactly what needs pruning for our growth and His glory. But, there’s an all-important distinction in our analogy. Although my tomato plants didn’t have a vote this morning, God gave you and a free will that allows us to work with Him, or actively resist His corrective hand. God is for us, friends. Working with Him will always lead to greater fellowship and more abundant life. If He has put His mighty hand on something in your life while you were reading these words, lay it down. You’ll be glad you did. ~Blessings (And if you want prayer support as you lay it down, drop a heart below and I’ll pray for you by name.)
I’ve officially wrapped the podcast and tv inter I’ve officially wrapped the podcast and tv interviews for Don’t Try to Pray Like Her.

I went into all of them with my home studio properly lit and all the techy gadgets tested and synced. They worked fantastic together until they didn’t.

It’s a mystery to me how everyone else does this so well, so regularly. I’d test everything way before an interview, but when the clock neared go time — drama! I’d leave the studio after one interview with all the components playing nice and inevitably they’d have a falling out before the next one. You want an example? Ok.

Different stations and podcasters use different platforms, (think Zoom or Riverside). More than once the expensive camera and/or mic would quit talking. This meant last minute switches from the wireless mic to the laptop audio or vice versa — and going back and forth from the laptop camera to the prissy camera.

If you caught clips with the interviewer looking directly into the camera and yours truly looking down at the laptop screen like it was my job instead of making good eye contact, you now know why. My apologies podcast world. Thanks for letting me play anyway. I’ll try to do better. (Famous last words.)

I’ve also wrapped speaking season. There are a couple open dates on my mid-August to mid-November 2026 schedule and maybe a few in the January till late May 2027 round.

Feel free to start a conversation about my coming to open the Word at your event, unless my transparency scares you. Obviously, I don’t subscribe to the “never let ‘em see sweat” theory. This Jesus loving Bible teacher and author sweats plenty, but maybe someone out there trying to follow the call they hear despite habitually falling forward needs this witness. You’re welcome. 😘
